When you become a widow in India you risk the loss of everything, suffering from the poor economy, improper clothing and lack of cooperation. Quite frankly, widows are banned in the society. They are not supposed to attend weddings, and even if they do attend they must be seated in a corner. They are not allowed to greet the young couple. If someone is going somewhere and they meet a widow they will return to where they began and will wait to be sure the widow will not be encountered on their journey. When a woman becomes a widow, she loses her honor, and is considered to be a contaminated one. She will be treated as homeless. It’s almost impossible for her to get married again. These are the circumstances that widows live under in India.
Favor the Helpless desires to follow God’s instruction to His church in
James 1:27 where it says,
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after
orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (NIV)

"For I was hungry and you gave me food: I was thirsty and you gave me drink: I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me"..."And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matthew 25:35-40 (KJV)
